The Carson Valley sits between the Sierra Nevada Mountains surrounding Lake Tahoe and the Pine Nut Mountains that are home to wild horses.  Minden, Gardnerville, and the historic Genoa are filled with beautiful views and expanses of ranch land.

Whether you desire rustic, whimsical, landscape inspired portraits or weddings, the Carson Valley offers a variety of options for every season to bring your vision to life.

  • Genoa – This charming small town is Nevada's oldest settlement with the historic Mormon Station, wooden boardwalks, and the Genoa Courthouse Museum give provides an excellent backdrop for portraits, engagements, and family sessions. Spring blossoms and Fall leaves create seasonal charm.  There are some great nearby hikes.  The tree-lined roads with valley and Sierra-crest views are popular locally for fall-color and family portrait sessions.

  • Mottsville Lane area – If you are looking for open ranchland with mountain backdrops and classic Nevada wild-horse sightings or a Western and ranch aesthetic for portraits, look no further.  Different seasons changing the atmosphere from backlit summer grasses to stormy ominous gray mountains shrouded in winter storm clouds. 

  • The Pine Nut Range – For sweeping views of the across the valley, go to the Pinenuts with only a short drive along a dirt road.  It may not be long before you are surrounded by wild horses. While they frequent watering holes, you may not always see them.  To see the wild mustang herds is exhilarating.  Regardless of wild horse sightings, this location is perfect for portraits, or engagement sessions, or even elopement sessions.

  • Minden & Gardnerville  - These two towns merge almost seamlessly, as if they are one.  Despite that, each one has its own unique historical downtown with small-town storefronts for portrait/branding sessions.  Each has its own fair share of parks that have scenic views in every direction.

  • Sierra foothill trailheads (Job's Peak, Jobs Sister area) – For easy access to hiking for adventure portrait sessions without the long drive to Tahoe, these provide views, water, forests, and more.  They overlook the Carson Vallery toward the Pinenuts.
