Alpine County

• Woodfords – This small junction community where Hwy 89 meets Hwy 88/4 is the practical gateway point from Carson Valley into Alpine County.

• Hope Valley – This location is filled with broad, glacier formed meadows along the West Fork of the Carson River.  It is surrounded on all sides by peaks and lines by aspens that bring photographers far and wide.  For easy roadside access, this spot offers enough variety for either sunrise or sunset portrait, engagement, senior, or elopement session whether is getting lost in an aspen grove, frolicking in a field of backlit grasses, or wading through river itself.  Not too far off you will find Blue Lakes Road, Red Lake, Burnside Lake, Lost Lakes, Crater Lake, Indian Creek Reservoir, Sunset Lakes, Tamarack Lake, and Scott's Lake scattered.  These are great for a quieter and more intimate session.

• Carson Pass – The route's dramatic high point at over 8,500 ft, with panoramic granite-and-meadow views and trailhead access into the Mokelumne Wilderness (including a popular wildflower hike to Frog Lake and Winnemucca Lake in July). For a high alpine big-vista ceremony or epic-backdrop portrait, these locations won't disappoint.  Weather and wind should be part of the planning conversation.

• Caples Lake – Sitting right beside Hwy 88 just past the pass, framed by Round Top and Elephants Back peaks, with water that turns glassy and mirror-like on calm days; shoreline aspens blaze gold in late fall, this spot is a consistently recommended stop on the whole highway.  There are full facilities (marina, lodging, store) at Caples Lake Resort if clients want a home base.

• Kirkwood – This high-elevation resort village just past Caples Lake is often known as a wintertime destination.  It is a convenient waypoint for fuel, food, or lodging, and a possible venue tie-in given its existing wedding/event infastructure as a ski resort.

• Silver Lake – If you continue further west along Hwy 88, you will come to Silver Lake which is popular for boating and fishing with its own alpine-lake scenery. Please note that the road over "Carson Spur" between Silver Lake and Kirkwood is the segment most prone to seasonal avalanche closures.

• Markleeville – The tiny, historic county seat of Alpine County (accessed via Hwy 89 south of Woodfords or Hwy 4 from Hwy 88) houses a handful of 19th-century buildings including the Alpine County Courthouse give it genuine small-town charm for portrait or branding sessions.  It a popular location for both summer and winter activities.  Just past town along the Carson River is camping, fishing, and hiking.

• Grover Hot Springs State Park – Four miles west of Markleeville, an alpine meadow at 5,900 ft ringed by peaks nearing 10,000 ft, with a maintained mineral hot-spring pool complex (day-use fee, seasonal hours) plus a campground, picnic area, and hiking trails. Already a proven elopement location for other Eastern Sierra photographers — a real example exists of a couple marrying here and returning for portraits a few days later — so it's worth featuring with confidence rather than just as a maybe.

• Ebbets Pass (Hwy 4) - As you leave Markleeville along the Carson River, you pass the turn off for Monitor Pass and begin to climb over Ebbetts Pass, federally designated National Scenic Byway, that winds its way to Arnold.  Rivers, forests, fall foliage, and Lake Alpine (7,350 ft) fill this landscape.  A great place with elevated views is Inspiration Point.  a good full-service home base if pairing Ebbetts Pass with a longer session day. If you want to go for a hike along the PCT, you can reach Mosquito Lake and Noble Lake.  Wildflowers typically bloom in June/July.  The pass itself is narrow, winding, and steep enough that it's not recommended for large RVs or trailers and closes in winter.
