Hi My name is Megan - the person behind the lens.
I grew up in Mammoth Lakes, which meant I grew up outside — chasing alpenglow up a trail before school, learning to read weather off the peaks, watching this place change with every season. That's the lens I still see through. Not a studio backdrop. The real one: granite, aspens, snowfields, changing light, and the people who love this place as much as I do.
The long way here
Before I ever picked up a camera professionally, I spent years learning how to be with people in high-stakes, high-emotion moments. I hiked through all kinds of weather, day and night, with the SAR team to help those in need. I taught wilderness medicine and was a whitewater raft guide across the Western US. I coached traditional and adaptive sports, where trust has to be built fast and earned honestly in addition to teaching students of all ages and abilities. I waited tables and worked banquets, where you learn to read a room in seconds and stay calm no matter what the day throws at you. I spent time in music, theater, and dance — places where showing up authentically is the whole job.
None of that was a detour. It's the actual training that makes me good at this. Every one of those years taught me the same thing: people do their best, especially when they feel safe, seen, and unhurried. Details matter. That's true on a ridgeline, on a dance floor, and in front of a camera.
Why photography
Photography is where all of it converges — the outdoors, the people, the timing, the trust. It lets me combine my love of wild places with my love of watching people relax into who they really are. I'm not chasing trends or forcing poses. I'm watching for the real moment — the laugh that isn't staged, the way two people lean into each other without thinking about it, the light doing something it'll only do for the next ninety seconds. My job is to be ready for that moment and calm enough that you forget I'm there.
What working with me actually feels like
Expect flexibility over formality. Expect me to adjust when the weather doesn't cooperate, the trail is longer than planned, or the timeline shifts — because I've spent years working in conditions that demand exactly that. Expect genuine conversation, not stiff direction. And expect photos that look like your life and your love story, set against the landscapes that make the Eastern Sierra and Carson Valley worth staying for.

This is home
I still live and work where I grew up — based between Mammoth Lakes and Gardnerville, out shooting across the Eastern Sierra, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, and the Carson Valley. I'm not visiting these places for just another shoot. I know where the light hits Convict Lake at 6am, which trailhead floods with people by 10, and where to find quiet even in July. That local knowledge becomes part of what I bring to your day.
